We’re coming up on the end of the June strawberry season.
We have both June-bearing and ever-bearing strawberries. Altogether we’ve planted somewhere around 500 plants over the years. The ever-bearing variety (Tri-star) starts producing at the beginning of June and will continue off and on til the first frost. The June-bearing comes at us in one enormous wave, two weeks of non-stop picking which leave my back a bit stooped and my fingers a bright shade of pink. Lots are given away, gallons are frozen, jam and strawberry butter are made, and our little farm stand starts up for the summer.
